Why the track mounts at that line
The mounting line was not chosen for looks alone, it is where the constraints line up. It is unbroken, and a run that keeps breaking looks unfinished. Height gives you reach down the facade, and the roof above it takes the direct weather.
The direction the light points
Where exactly the channel sits is a real design decision. Tucked underneath, the light falls down the elevation. Mounted on the fascia, the run itself is what you see from the street. Neither is the default, and the answer depends on your roof and your goal.Where the channel sits changes how far the light travels down the face of the house, which is a bigger difference than most people expect.
Not every house is straightforward
Overhang depth varies a lot, and it affects what is possible. Deeper is good for protection, and can work against the wash you wanted. With little overhang, the choices narrow. This is exactly the kind of thing a site visit settles and a phone quote cannot.
What the eave line is worth on an ordinary night
A lit eave line is genuinely useful after dark. The practical version is being able to see the steps, which sounds small until it is raining. A house with a lit edge reads as occupied and cared for.
Gutters, roofs and the order of operations
The eave line is crowded. If a roof or a gutter replacement is coming in the next year or two, say so during the consultation. The sensible order puts the lighting last, because the alternative is removing a run that was just installed. It is a five second question that saves a real headache.
Upper runs
A single story house has one line to consider. Add a floor and the plan has a decision in it. The upper roofline gives you the strongest outline, because it is highest and has the most sky behind it. A lower eave over a porch or a garage puts light nearer where people actually are, which does more practical work. Running both is common, though it does not have to happen in the same year.
